§ 10-41. Definitions.

Latest version.
  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

Animal means any animal as set out in this section.

Animal owner means any person having ownership of or custody of or control over or personal rights in an exotic species or wild animals to remain on or about any premises occupied by him.

Exotic wild animals means any animal of wild, fierce or dangerous species likely to create harm or threat of harm in any place other than zoological parks, aquariums, laboratories, circuses or other licensed exhibitory shows; or those not under the direct supervision of licensed commercial dealers, state game and fish management commissioners, federal wildlife services or U.S. Department of Agriculture. Also, for the purposes of this section, the term "exotic wild animals" shall mean lions, tigers, cougars, leopards, panthers, bears and other nondomestic animals of an untamable disposition notwithstanding that their natural wildness may be intermittently dormant as said wildness is likely to be awakened at any time, suddenly and unexpectedly. Further, that failure to specifically list any animal in this definition section will not preclude such animal from being deemed an innately wild and nondomestic animal of untamable disposition.

Police officer means any person employed or elected by the municipality, county and state whose duty it is to preserve peace or to make arrests or to enforce the law.

Police work dog means a dog trained to aid law enforcement officers, actually used for police work purposes, for the protection of the public, including the investigation of crime and the apprehension of law violators.
