§ 58-62. Drainage ditches, structures.

  • (a)

    Ditches shall be constructed on the sides of the roadbed as required to handle stormwater runoff and should be sized according to good engineering practices. The normal ditch shall be a V-bottom with eight inches minimum depth below the base course. Maximum side slopes shall be 2.1, ditch bottom slope shall be 1.0 percent minimum to prevent ponding of water.

    (b)

    Drainage structures such as culverts and bridges shall be sized and located according to good engineering practices to divert water under roads and driveways. The minimum cover over culverts shall be 12 inches.

    (c)

    From and after the effective date of this section, anytime the county road department replaces an existing or installs a new drainage structure, with the exception of intersecting driveways, which includes but not limited to box culverts, pipes, high density polyethylene pipes (HDPE) and corrugated metal pipes (CMP), the drainage structures shall be of reinforced concrete pipe (RCP).
